Juniper Green is a village lying to the south-west of Edinburgh that has been absorbed into the suburbs of Scotland’s capital city.
Close to the affluent suburbs of Colinton and Balerno, Juniper Green sits above the Water of Leith on the A70 Lanark Road into the central Borders region, in one direction and into the city, in the other. It is well served by Lothian Buses on the Edinburgh side and by a West Lothian Council bus service into Livingston with its huge Almondvale shopping centre and Designer Outlet, a swimming pool and St John’s Hospital.
Juniper Green has been designated a Conservation Area and still retains much of its village character. Over and above a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants, Juniper Green also has ample leisure facilities including a tennis club, a golf course and a bowling club.
Famous sons of the village include the man who was once Scotland’s most famous policeman, Willie Merrilees and, even further back in time, one James Murray (d.1634) and who was one of the first men in Scotland to be termed an “architect”.
Building has now commenced on a new residential development in the village’s Woodhall Drive, on the site of a disused community hall. Now, four townhouses will soon be ready to market, each of which will contain five bedrooms over three storeys and will offer delightful open-plan spaces to accommodate modern family life.
These new family homes will have excellent environmental credentials inluding photovoltaic panels, hidden behind a brickwork parapet. First-floor terraces will provide residents with stunning views to the Pentland Hills.
Juniper Green offers families that wonderful combination of village life with easy access to the countryside, yet barely five miles’ commute into Edinburgh City Centre.
Designed by Lynsay Bell Architects, these new Edinburgh homes are a Glencairn Properties development.
