The team at Cailean Ltd, Independent Financial Advisers

Colin McGugan - Independent Financial Adviser

Colin is the founder of Cailean Ltd and specialises in the area of wealth preservation for individual clients and owner-managed businesses.  In particular, he provides advice in investment and pre/post retirement planning, pensions and divorce and Inheritance Tax planning.

He likes to demystify even the most complex financial planning matters with his clients as much as possible and his motto is to “keep it simple”.

Colin has been in financial services since 2001 and has worked for both large national advisory firms and privately owned independent financial advisory firms. He is qualified to Diploma level.

When not working, Colin enjoys spending time with his three boys (Liam, Adam and Ray) and his partner Lauren, walking his dogs, renovating motorcycles and at his allotment.

Kathryn Tomlinson - Independent Financial Adviser

Kathryn specialises in providing independent pre/post retirement planning, investment and Inheritance Tax planning financial advice for her clients.  She advises individuals on protection for themselves and their families to help ease the financial burden should a critical illness be contracted, loss of income or loss of life.  For companies, she helps businesses to protect against the added financial pressure of a key employee or shareholder contracting a critical illness or loss of life.  Kathryn also has experience since 2000 of helping employers set up and run their employee benefit schemes and, more recently, has helped companies with their automatic enrolment duties.

She has been an adviser since 1996 and has worked for Standard Life and privately owned independent financial advisory firms.  Kathryn is fully qualified to Diploma level and in addition, has the Pension Transfer Specialist G60 qualification.

When not working, Kathryn enjoys spending time with her partner Kevin, her family and friends, keeping fit (especially boxing), eating out and, like most women, doing a bit of shopping.

Bev Kane - Paraplanner

Bev looks after our paraplanning, which means she does research into the solutions we recommend to our clients and prepares reports explaining the reasons behind our recommendations.  Alongside this, she also provides technical support within Cailean.  She has been in financial services since 1999 and has worked with various large corporate companies and national independent financial advisory firms providing support for both individual and corporate clients.  Bev is also qualified to Diploma level.

When not working, Bev loves to spend time with her husband Simon, their baby girl Aria and his son Lucas. Bev loves her music and going to music festivals and concerts to see bands.

Willie McDonald - Sales Support

Willie is our sales support, which means he is the central “hub” of Cailean, helping to ensure that everything in the background runs as smoothly as possible. His experience of working in a financial services supporting role is vast, looking after both personal and corporate clients, as he started in the industry when he was just 17. He has worked for both smaller IFA practices as well as large companies.

When not working, Willie loves lawn bowling, which he plays competitively for Craigentinny Bowling Club, spending time with his son Christopher and working his way through the huge number of Edinburgh restaurants with his partner Mandy.

James McQuistin - Mortgage and Protection Adviser

James provides individuals across the whole of the UK with independent advice on the most suitable mortgage and protection for them based on their personal circumstances.  He is very experienced in providing mortgage advice for first time buyers, home movers, people re-mortgaging, contractors, buy to lets, equity release and in adverse credit scenarios. He has been involved in Financial Services since 2002, working for large national companies and running his own IFA firm for a number of years. He spent two years working in the Middle East, where he gained further valuable experience in offshore investments. He is qualified to FPC 1, 2, 3 and MAQ level.

When not working, James enjoys spending time with his family, wife Fiona and children Dayna, Ellie, Finn and Fern. He enjoys an occasional game of golf and a glass of red wine….often the two are combined, with disastrous results..

Kirsty McDonald - Administrator

Kirsty has over 15 years' financial services experience working for smaller IFA practices and larger global companies.

When not working, she enjoys spending time with her partner Stuart, her family and friends.

Nicola Marshall - Administrator

When not working, Nicola enjoys spending time with her husband Ross, their young daughter Scarlett and Ross’ son Jake.
